Background
About Ric Cope
As a passionate advocate for innovative technologies in environmental consultancy, I'm currently exploring ways to implement AI in businesses to increase efficiencies and support transformative change. This interest is complemented by my recent appointment as a 'Jules Ambassador' for Bureau Veritas, where I promote and support the use of BV's in-house LLM tool, powered by Anthropic's Claude model. With over 25 years of experience in environmental consultancy, I bring a unique blend of traditional expertise and forward-thinking approaches to the field. My career spans delivering and managing technical surveys and assessments across a broad range of development sectors, including commercial, residential, retail, transportation (roads, rail, airports), power generation (including renewables and nuclear), utilities, and waste. Currently, I serve as the Team Leader of BV's Acoustics, Vibration & Occupational Hygiene group, providing technical support and acting as project director/manager for large-scale projects. These have included Crossrail station construction works, NSIP planning projects for National Grid electricity transmission, and workplace noise and HAV assessments for major UK and global engineering and manufacturing businesses. My journey began with a specialization in industrial air quality, later expanding into occupational workplace exposure surveys, odour impact assessment, and ambient air quality studies. I've since become a specialist in environmental acoustics, with expert witness experience. A career highlight includes serving as the noise and vibration technical lead for EDF Energy's DCO application for a new build nuclear power station while at Amec. Involvement in large-scale developments such as airport runway extensions, major regeneration schemes, and energy infrastructure projects has honed my understanding of the EIA and environmental planning process. This expertise extends to full-scope environmental auditing of development construction works and industrial operations. For over two decades, I've managed small teams providing acoustics, air quality and occupational hygiene consultancy services, focusing on team building, business development, staff growth, and strategic planning. My unique combination of extensive environmental consultancy experience and a forward-thinking approach to AI integration positions me at the forefront of innovative solutions in the environmental sector, ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
