About Ric Fordham

As a Health Economist my goal is to bring together academic and health professionals to make better use of limited healthcare resources. I am the founder of Health Economics Consulting at UEA and now Professorial Fellow in Public Health Economics at the Medical School, Norwich, University of East Anglia (part-time). I am especially interested in Public Health Economics, a sub-discipline of health economics with special challenges beyond individual welfare maximisation. I am also very interested in the economics of health innovation: in particular, how to measure, value and how realise its potential faster in patients treatment. Much of my work now focuses on climate change, biodiversity and impacts on health and costs of healthcare. I also have a long-standing interest in the economics of eye care and public health in developing countries. I have studied Economics at York and Health Planning and Demography at Leeds, then receiving a PhD from the School of Population Health, University of Western Australia. I undertook Public Health training at Cambridge. I am a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health (FFPH) of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and an Honorary Consultant in PH at OHID (formerly Public Health England). I have worked both for the NHS and with a wide range of national and international bodies inc. NICE, WHO and international governments inc. the Australian and German healthcare systems. My early Research Fellow years were spent working at the University of York for Prof. Alan Williams from whom I learned the art of 'working with the possible'.
