Ricardo's professional journey is a nuanced blend of scientific acuity, entrepreneurial drive, and activism. His path, though diverse, has always been deeply rooted in his dedication and vision to address issues in Latin America through the exploration and application of synthetic biology.His academic groundwork was laid with a degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the TEC de Monterrey and an MSc in Systems and Synthetic Biology from the University of Edinburgh.Ricardo's career took a creative turn when he co-coordinated the bioart exhibition "Lúcida" at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MARCO) in Monterrey, Nuevo León and "Synesthesia: Natural and Synthetic" at the Museo de la luz,(Mexico City, Nuevo León). These exhibits showcased not just his technical expertise, but also his ability to craft engaging and meaningful experiences that bridge science, technology, and art. This interdisciplinary approach has become a defining feature of his professional identity.As Vice President of the iGEM Leagues Program at the iGEM Foundation, Ricardo oversees initiatives in Latin America, Indonesia, the Middle East, and North Africa. His strategic thinking, coupled with his ability to navigate intercultural communication, aids in fostering the development of synthetic biology ecosystems in these regions, always from a global perspective.Ricardo's commitment to ethical scientific practices took center stage during his tenure as a member of the Intersecretarial Commission of Biosafety and Genetically Modified Organisms (CIBIOGEM). This experience deepened his understanding of regulatory landscapes and emphasized the importance of dialogue between society, government representatives, and scientists.His entrepreneurial journey began with the co-founding of Scintia, a startup aimed at democratizing access to education in Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology for Latinx individuals.Through his professional initiatives and activities, Ricardo does more than just lead teams; he empowers individuals to solve problems, aiming to instigate a new wave of responsible synthetic biologists for the future.
