Background
About Rich Johnson
I started out my professional work life as a part time grocery stocker, at a small store, close to home. It was owned by a family and that was their only small business. In addition to earning their trust and given more responsibilities over the years, my boss would sometimes pay us to walk around the community with her and gather trash from the road sides. It was a good opportunity to learn about small business and the effects it has on the local community. After getting my license in high school, I branched out and found a job at McDonalds. I started out making sandwiches in the grill area. In the year that I worked there I received several raises and was able to cover any station. By the end of my time there, I was either handling money or working the front drive thru and interacting with many customers. Once I graduated high school I joined the United States Marine Corps for 5 years. My job specialty was working in communications. I traveled quite often with this job and troubleshot many types of hardware during my tenure. I received numerous medals and commendations during my time, including a presidential unit citation for work done overseas. I ended my time leading a ground radio section and a group of Marines. I ensured we had a high percentage of fixed gear and positively motivated my team to work hard. During the last month of my enlistment, I ended up landing a job at McKesson as a customer support analyst. At McKesson I learned about their custom applications as well as standard applications. I became familiar with multiple versions of SQL and Windows. I also learned what it was like to work in a large corporate environment and spent a lot of time in a cubicle. This also started a path into the medical side of IT and all of the extra training that goes along with it. Then I got a position as a network analyst working for Iron Mountain, which is where I am at today. I started out working midnight shift and handling a lot of upgrades as those are best ran during "off hours". After a short while I started working with the medical imaging team. Since we handled everything in our environment, I became familiar with building and configuring servers and storage devices, managing ESXi through a vCenter, configuring network switches and firewall appliances. I have done a lot of additional training and obtained special security clearances to work in closed off environments. As of most recently I became familiar with S3 protocols for cloud storage and managing a small CommVault instance.
