About Richard Barnett

I had spent over 35 years in customer service retail. Thirteen years in a mid-size inner-city supermarket and then 23 in a community college bookstore. While at the bookstore, I helped implement some technological changes, system enhancements, process improvements, and an online and social media presence. I became involved in our regional trade association, joining the board and working my way up through president. I still volunteer for the organization today. Several years ago, my wife told me "You really need to go back to school and get your Master's." So, that's what I did. I looked around and decided to go back to University of Baltimore to do grad school in Publications Design. The program is part writing and part graphic design, an integration of words and images. I went back for the writing, but found I really enjoyed the design aspect of the program as well. “The Rescued Radish”, the program’s capstone group assignment won 2016 Outstanding Project Award. So, here I am, a 2016 graduate, a writer who understands and appreciates the principles of design. In 2017, the college opted to outsource the bookstore operations. Bookstore employees were given several options, and I opted to remain employed by the college in a different capacity: intercollegiate athletics. I am now responsible for and learning sports information, game day operations, eligibility and compliance, and procurement of equipment and supplies. It is an interesting combination of using my skills and experience while garnering new experiences and improving and adding to my skill set.
