I specialise in identifying pragmatic solutions that maximise mutual benefits. As a Senior Ecological Consultant at ORS, I work with an expert team to deliver a comprehensive range of services in support of sustainable development and biodiversity. Award-winning tertiary educator with experience in course design. Previously taught topics include: genomics; bioinformatics; molecular evolution; phylogenetics; transcriptomics; human genetics; proteomics; molecular biology; synthetic biology; statistics; data visualisation. Diverse bioinformatics and genomics research experience, including projects on animals, plants, fungi, bacteria and viruses. Areas of research include: short read, 10x Genomics linked read, PacBio, Oxford Nanopore, Hi-C and hybrid de novo whole genome sequencing and assembly in vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, fungi and bacteria; conservation genomics; invasion genomics; comparative genomics; functional site and specificity prediction in proteins; protein-protein interactions; transcriptomics; methylation analysis; proteomic analyses of marine organisms (corals and coccoliths) and bacteria; translational control of protein expression; pneumococcal biofilm formation and vaccine evasion; human platelet activation; microbiome analysis. I am experienced in discussing complex scientific ideas with collaborators from a wide range of backgrounds, including biochemists, botanists, clinicians, computer scientists, ecologists, microbiologists, molecular biologists, neuroscientists, pharmacologists, statisticians, and synthetic chemists.
