Some of the areas he works in include: television, feature film, and new media project development, financing, pre-production, production, distribution, advising and opining on copyright and insurance issues; advising on music legal issues including publishing, acquisition, licensing and royalty management, and executive management. In addition to such media related matters, Richard is actively involved in advising on general corporate-commercial legal matters, including contracts, corporate structuring, purchase and sale transactions, employment, branding, leasing, software and trademark support and all other general business law matters. The Producer… As an adjunct to his law practice, Richard owns Entente Entertainment Inc, a Canadian corporation specializing in the management, production and distribution of television and film projects. Richard has acted as an executive producer on various projects including the feature film “One Week”, awarded a gala presentation at TIFF 2008, and successfully released with a Canadian box office exceeding the 2010 feature film “Score: A Hockey Musical”, which was the opening film at TIFF in 2010; as well as Michael McGowan’s “Still Mine”, starring two Academy Award-nominated actors – James Cromwell and Geneviève Bujold which premiered at TIFF in 2012 and was released worldwide in 2013. In the documentary area, Richard has EP'd a number of theatrical feature docs, including Melody Makers and “Athenaeum Enterprise” (aka “A History of Receding Horizons”) directed by Alison Rose. The Teacher. In addition to his business and professional interests, Richard has spoken at various conferences and workshops, and in 2004 Richard was the lead instructor of Law 326 (Entertainment Law) at the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. Since 2017 Richard has taught entertainment law (FTVB 714) for a post-grad program at Centennial College.
