About Richard Harper

Writing about yourself for a INTJ Myers-Briggs personality type does not come instinctively! However, what does is strategic, logical and data driven thinking. Identifying a career that suits my personality type has been challenging and after a few years of experimenting in a range of areas I have landed on the career path for me. At University one of my favourite modules was Systems Analysis and Design, I always remember the one piece of coursework where I exceled in identifying the bottlenecks in a process then elevating the model by prioritising how the bottlenecks should be improved.Having worked in Quality Engineering for a few years I was asked to work with Bombardier (now Alstom) in Derby on their Goods Inward Inspection area. The process and work area were completely broken. After 6 months of working on this area with a small team, we were able to turn this process around to make it slick and efficient and we were showcased to the head of Global Quality of Bombardier. This moment will stay with me as one of my proudest moments so far. Then my career took a bit more of an adventurous turn, I was given the opportunity to go and work in Norway and Germany and this must be one of the highlights of my career. Working with a Quality Department to help improve documentation, auditing, and compliance work. Sadly, due to Covid, this opportunity’s full potential was never realised and after 6 months this position came to its end. However, the improvements work and the moment at university resonated strongly with me and that lead me to decide to complete all Lean 6 Sigma belts. I am currently working on Black and I am due to take my exam very soon. Lean 6 compliments my thinking and my passion for improvements. I find the idea of improving a process with the power of statistics and data a very captivating one. When I’m not studying you’ll find me behind a camera photographing wildlife or in the kitchen.
