Richard is the Dean and Head of the Adelaide Dental School, The University of Adelaide. He is also head of the discipline of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. His main research interest is in the toxicities of cancer treatment, particularly pathobiology of alimentary tract mucositis. He is a member of the Mucositis Study Group of the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer. He is a past Chair of the Faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and a Past President of the International Society of Oral Oncology.
