Background
About Richard Matzen
I enjoy being an English professor in writing studies and teaching Woodbury University’s culturally diverse students. My recent research foci – piloting first-year experience, facilitating high-impact practices, and exploring teaching-for-transfer – are complemented by my recent publications: my book Weathering the Storm (2019) and my two articles ("One Teacher, One Classroom: A Problem in Writing?" 2020 and "First Year Composition: A Social Strategy for Observing the 'Local'" 2020). Regarding creative writing, my poetry Book Going was published in 2017 and my new poetry book 1986 Poems: The Inner Life of a Novel is under consideration with publishers. I expect to market my novel Mona Lisa in 2022. Among my most recent passions is helping Woodbury University find and apply for grants.
