About Richard Mayus

Richard is the founder of Greentopia Japan, an agritech venture that is striving to turn our cities green through sustainable, environmentally-friendly methods of growing food. Greentopia designs, sells, and leases hydroponic growing systems, builds custom greenhouses, and can establish urban farms in virtually any environment. Richard also teaches sustainability and urban farming topics such as composting, recycling, habitat preservation, food safety & security, and the impact of climate change. Prior to forming Greentopia and investment vehicle NLC Japan, Richard was the co-founder of a boutique hedge fund which focused primarily on the Japanese and US markets. Here he was responsible for the day-to-day trading operations, portfolio and risk management, and strategy development of the Fund. He was also intimately involved in the software development process, overseeing the creation of proprietary screening tools, transaction reporting and reconciliation software, and in-house trading systems. Under Richard’s leadership, the Fund exceeded a 20% average return each of its 14 years in existence.
