About Richard Mervyn

Richard Mervyn is a company director, television producer, director, writer, aerial co-ordinator and cameraman. In 2002 he founded an independent aerial production company with Damian Keogh – Skyworks, which to date has made over 100 all aerial programmes for ITV, the BBC and International distribution. The company has the largest, and growing, HD library in the world. Richard has achieved well over flying hours in helicopters since his first flight in 1977, and has filmed in most of Western Europe, over twenty states in the US, Iceland, Brazil and South Africa. Richard’s television career begun back in 1966, as a floor assistant with ABC Television. In 1974 at the age of 25 he became a director at Thames television. He went freelance in 1989. During his time at Thames Television he produced several arts/features series including Six Centuries of Verse with Sir John Gielgud, The English Garden also with Sir John Gielgud, The English House and the Grand Tour. Some of these series contained aerial sequences and it began a lifelong passion for aerial film work Richard joined Flying Pictures in 1995 and in 1996 became managing director of Aerial Film Services and Flying Pictures Productions, a part of Flying Pictures ltd, which specialised in all aspects of aerial film co-ordination and production for international feature films, television and commercials. In 1998, and now working as his own aerial cameraman, he completed the largest aerial production ever undertaken, The History of Britain from the Air, which was backed by Ch4 and M&S.
