About Richard Rastall

Over 20 years experience - mainly in SE & South Asia (but also Africa)- in the fundraising & tendering for, design & implementation of climate adaptation, mitigation, NbS, climate resilient agriculture and sustainable landscapes projects. I have led teams and programmes, as well as performed the role of a technical specialist (especially in roles related to multi-stakeholder landscape/natural resource management and environmental & social safeguards). Experience with a wide range of clients/donors - including both public (i.e. overseas development agencies such as World Bank, ADB, GIZ, IKI, DGIS, UN agencies (UNDP, FAO), USAID, JICA, several INGOs etc) and the private sector. Currently self-employed and working on various assignments: 1) With UNDP as a Social & Environmental Standards expert supporting GCF/GEF projects in 5 Asia Pacific countries (1 year/50%); 2) A short term assignment supporting the prepration of an ADB Responsible Forestry investment in Lao PDR; 3) Backstopping technical support to SNV on ESG/safeguards for bankable climate investments with the private sector in Africa and Asia. In my last full-time position as Agri-food Sector Leader for SNV in Viet Nam (2019-24), I led the strategic development & management (ensuring technical quality) of a substantial portfolio of climate smart agriculture & NbS projects. This included the oversight of more than 17 projects (11 successfully completed, the remainder ongoing/starting) and development of over EUR 35m in new programming for the organisation with financing from various development sector and private clients. I also worked as a part-time technical adviser on ESG/safeguards for one of SNV's global flagship programmes on climate change - the Dutch Fund for Climate & Development.
