Background

About Richard Stern

Human Factors researcher and Ph.D. student seeking to assist in bridging the understanding between AI and human decision-making. My foundation is from a Master of Social Science (psychology focus), which programmed my ability to observe, frame, and understand human behavior. My research centers on AI, sense of agency, and metacognition, specifically regarding the effect that a highly autonomous system may have on these constructs. I am managing the full research lifecycle of a project currently: from literature review and securing IRB approval, to implementing stimuli into Qualtrics and seeking participants. Beyond the lab, I leverage robust communication and organizational skills honed as a Lab Manager and through teaching experience in diverse settings—from kindergarten through corrections. This background ensures I can effectively communicate complex topics into accessible formats for a multitude of audiences.
