I’m an experienced entrepreneur with a track record of creating technology-based ventures that make the world a slightly better place. The headlines: 1. I like solving problems, typically by challenging the status quo with new technologies / business models. I’ve spent much of my working life at the intersection between business, government and the not for profit world. I speak social and commercial. I tend to work with people that are courageous, and want to shake things up a bit 3. Im passionate about the need for business to play a more active, pro-social role in society. I work with enlightened leaders that understand they have an obligation to do the right thing, but understand the commercial advantage from doing so. I’m excited by the radical shifts around the design, commissioning and delivery of public services Having spent 20+ years around the government, I can see how the existing traditional/hierachical paternalistic approach to providing public services is creaking and undergoing radical reform. And its great. People powered approaches can play a central role, if we make it easier for various all the talents to get involved. Building on points 1,2,3,4,5 - I’m a bit evangelical about the designing new forms of public service, and the role that technology and new forms of collaboration - especially with business - will play in delivering social good in the future. Solving societal problems should be a team sport. I’ve spent a long time in the world of recruitment and tech, and Im a proper geek when it comes to how labour markets function. I helped create the first job board in the UK in 1995, and continue to marvel at the potential to improve how the labour market works - for everyone. Building on the previous point, Im passionate about harnessing peoples’ talent, especially those that haven’t had the best start in life. Business needs to better understand the role of good work in society, and think about how their 'business as usual' approach to recruitment could be easily adapted to create new talent pipelines, and in doing so, transform communities.
