About Rick Adams

As a Financial Analyst, Rick Adams provides modeling on real estate, small businesses, and unconventional projects. His passion for this work causes him to be adept at communicating with clients who are unfamiliar with finance. Common Calculations Common calculations used in analysis: internal rates of return, net present value, current yield, terminal value, discounted cash flow, future value calculations, and monthly debt payments. Rick helps guide his clients to help them understand the meaning and relevance of these calculations in decision-making. Working Relationships Upon learning about a specific project, Rick usually provides sample modeling pertaining to the investor’s needs at no charge. The prospect can then determine whether to go forward; sometimes this is all that is needed. After the initial pro bono analysis, a cost quote is provided. Typically, the charge is determined by the project, not an hourly rate. He has also been known to work for equity. This is an arrangement that clients greatly appreciate, as Rick provides ongoing support for the business. Background Prior to launching his business as a financial analyst, he spent 30 years as a financial advisor. He began his career with Wheat First Securities. During his time there, the company had five names and six mergers. His tenure culminated under Wells Fargo Advisors, where he held the position of Managing Director – Investment Officer. After 25 years at the same firm, he and his partner left and launched their own financial advisory – Adams Chetwood Wealth Management. When he stepped away from Adams Chetwood, they had $120 million in assets under management. Education Rick Adams earned a Master of Finance from Northeastern University in Boston and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduating from UNC, he had a one-year internship at Grove City College where he obtained invaluable knowledge in economics. Personal Background Rick and his wife, Jane, have been married for 33 years and have four wonderful children. Committed to helping his community, he has served on the Board of Trustees for Durham Technical Community College and chairs Parents for Educational Freedom in NC. He is a man of faith and attends FBC Durham Church. Rick carries a passion for young people in this area, currently serving on the local board for Young Life. He has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Trinity School and the Agapé Corner School, which helps at-risk, inner city youth.
