About Rick Bacon

I am senior manager with nearly 18 years working in a director role combined with an additional 10 years field and supervisory experience in the construction industry. I have developed skills in leadership, analytics and team building while establishing myself as a unique individual in the roles I was accountable for. I have held employment in regions across central and western Canada in both urban and rural centers, both private industry and public sectors. Early on in life I tended to gravitate toward a leadership role. Once I realized my potential of functioning at a level above a labourer role, I decided to return to school to build my credentials in the engineering technology field. While gaining experience as a field engineer working in Toronto on the 407ETR for CHIC and subsequently for PCL out of the Winnipeg district my assignments typically were at the field supervisory level with a high level of accountability for myself, the projects and my crews. Immediately following my departure from PCL, I accepted the role of Assistant Director of Works and operations with the City of Flin Flon where I again proved myself as a leader and was elevated to the Director role after only 2 years. Since that time, I have functioned in the municipal world and established myself as a visionary leader and strategist that will effect change and growth in the organizations I have been involved with. I have developed a unique set of skills and understanding of both the public and private sides of managing operations as well as construction projects of all sizes. I have proven to have sound analytical qualities as a professional that challenges the status quo and seeks operational efficiencies. I am able to visualize solutions and articulate ideas in a way that is understandable to a diverse audience. I have utilized my skills to create teamwork environments and collaboration to achieve goals. At the City of Flin Flon I changed the major focus my department from strictly completing only maintenance and repairs to a crew that could complete its own major civil capital work. After progressively increasing the scope of the in-house projects, in 2009 I lead the City to construct the Feeder Main Renewal Project. I acted as project manager, my municipal crew did the work with the exception of a few local subcontractors and the project came in on time and on budget. I am a unique individual with the ability to function at a high level on all sides of the table, be it director, contractor, owner representative, consultant, field supervisor or all of the above.
