About Rick Baldin

At Niagara College my time is split between academic instruction and research. My Research activities typically involve manufacturing processes. Examples of research studies include: textile manufacturing, automation of industrial mesh assembly methods, greenhouse manufacturing productivity, tender fruit handling and packaging, dimensional inspection of flexible food packaging, composite panel trimming operations, along with numerous productivity assessments for small manufacturers looking to become "LEAN" in their operation. My years of experience installing and improving manufacturing processes has exposed me to many facets of Mechanical Engineering. I’ve launched many processes from steel forging, through machining, along with high volume assembly and lean manufacturing assembly cells. Design for Manufacturability has been used regularly to ensure products could be manufactured to meet specifications economically. All work has required extensive use of the pFMEA process along with significant time spent studying process capability and meeting requirements. My role has progressed to coaching and managing teams to ensure all objectives are met under very strict timelines. Teams supervised have included engineers, tradespeople, production supervisors, as well as production workers. My work has been recognized each year with outstanding performance reviews.
