About Rick Chesnut

Mr. Chesnut is a professional engineer and geologist with over 23 years of applied experience and is presently the Principal, Geotechnical Department Manager, and Western Operating Group Geotechnical Services Group Liaison in Terracon’s Salt Lake City, Utah office. Mr. Chesnut has a strong background in geotechnical engineering with extensive experience in reporting and analysis, field exploration and laboratory testing. Mr. Chesnut’s areas of emphasis include pavement section design (AASHTO 1993 and DARWin-ME Mechanistic Emperical design procedures), deep and shallow foundations, earth and rock-fill structures, slope and landslide stability, geologic hazards assessment and earthquake engineering. Mr. Chesnut has managed a wide variety of projects including geotechnical design and investigations for energy transmission lines and facilities, transportation, bridges, commercial retail and industrial developments, water tanks, water treatment plants and earth-fill dams, geologic hazards studies, structural distress investigations, and expert witness for legal services. He reviews geotechnical engineering designs, provides interpretations on results and partners with other civil engineering members to provide a cost-effective approach to geotechnical related issues. Mr. Chesnut serves as a Principal Engineer and Project Manager for large and small scale projects. His experience in managing such projects, have allowed him to design systems for field work and report writing, in a cost-effective way.
