About Rick Gilson

Married in March of 1980 to Chauna (Pack) Gilson father of six children, four of whom are married and the proud grandfather of seven. I have been involved in coaching since coaching flag football in 1973 or so in Calgary and have enjoyed coaching over 64 different football teams; pee-wee, bantam, high school (boys and girls), and provincial teams along with basketball; community, jr high, and sr high (girls), and volleyball at the community and Jr high levels. Coaching has always provided an opportunity to try and influence young people to be the best young men and women they can be. After 33 years in education, the last 6 in central office, I retired in 2018 and accepted my current position supporting the professional learning of teachers across the province and specifically south of Calgary. I still love teaching and coaching, I think this has played some role in my enjoyment of public speaking. I served a mission in Japan from 1978-80 and retain a working knowledge of Japanese and a love for the Japanese people I met in Nagasaki, Futenma & Naha (Okinawa), Fukuoka, and Yahata while I was in Japan. I look forward to picking up the pass in sharing thoughts via a blog at as much for my family and friends as for anyone else with an interest in faith, family, football, leadership and self-development.
