About Rick Hempel

Background and HIstory: Rick Hempel has a professional career that spans 28 years. His career includes multiple disciplines of public service and emergency preparedness. During this time, he has expanded his capabilities as a tactician as well as a master instructor and senior leader in each of these capacities. Rick retired from his position as a Captain with a municipal police department. In that capacity, he was responsible for the operations and supervision of all personnel within the department, and reported directly to the Chief of Police. In addition, he also held the position of Emergency Management Coordinator for the city for 11 years. He has successfully led, managed, and been responsible for command and control in numerous "All-Hazard" responses, including: large scale structure fires, crime scenes, criminal investigations, mass-casualty incidents, evacuations, and notably was the city's incident commander for the preparation, response, and recovery to hurricanes and other crises. Additionally, Rick has worked in the field of HSSE in the offshore oilfield, subsea construction, and pipeline industries. He has worked with both regulatory and investigative agencies for not only regulatory compliance, but also workplace incidents, up to and including fatality investigations. Rick recognizes that the key to success is relationship building and successful leadership strategies. He has built a network that includes, not only government and elected officials, but also from leaders in their crafts and the industries that they serve. During crisis situations, he is known for utilizing sound judgment, while making effective decisions or, when briefing or consulting for senior leadership. As the Vice President of FOCUSS Service Group- Emergency Services Division, Rick brings the skills and education, obtained in the public sector, and applies them to private industry. This will provide the client with current and proven methodologies for handling crisis scenarios with prudent plans and implementation.
