About Rick Kunc

I am thrilled to join the KCS community as we open a new Senior School on the shores of Lake Ontario that will see school differently. Extending the amazing culture that exists at KCS we will be igniting passion and nurturing curiosity as our students will engage in learning experiences that take them into our community every day! I am blessed to have been an educator for over 25 years. Starting my career in the Halton District School Board, I was then hired by the Wentworth County Board of Education that soon became part of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. As a classroom teacher, department head, guidance counselor, coach, and mentor I learned much about the art of teaching and the importance of building relationships across the entire school community. I brought these lessons to my role as a school administrator which began as a Vice Principal at Saltfleet. After two years in that position, I was fortunate to become the Principal at Parkview, Westmount, Barton and Henderson. Each of these positions provided me with unique challenges and experiences that helped shape who I am as a school leader. I built strong professional relationships and supported educators in becoming leaders of educational change while remaining focused on student success. Throughout my time as an administrator in Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, I was an active member with the Ontario Principals Council and was honoured to be chosen as the Chair of Hamilton-Wentworth Principal's Council for 2 consecutive years. In 2016 is search of a new professional challenge, I was thrilled to be named the Principal of Senior School at Hillfield Strathallan College. I joined an institution that celebrates its history, that is committed to creating a sense of community, and that is passionate about learning with joy and living with purpose. I was honoured to be named Deputy Head of College in July 2019 and I was proud of what we accomplished together. In July 2020 I joined The Hill Academy as the Director of Academics. Opening a new 135 acre campus with a HyFlex learning model for elite athletes during a pandemic brought many challenges and professional growth opportunities. I am honoured to have worked and learned with them. Instructor roles at Brock University and York University Faculties of Education have enriched my professional life and provided me with an opportunity to continue to grow as an educator.
