About Rick Marsden

I'm a seasoned professional engineer with over 30 years of progressive cross-functional competencies in the Alberta Oil & Gas, and power generation industries. This includes project engineering, facility engineering, integrity engineering, pressure equipment inspections, and managing small teams of integrity subject matter experts. I have an ABSA In-service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certificate of Competency, and a National Board In-service Commission. During 2021/2022, I completed the requirements to become an Alberta Safety Codes Officer in the pressure equipment discipline while employed with ABSA. I am a creative problem solver who applies methodical engineering thinking to overcome both technical and non-technical challenges. I enjoy applying these skills while conducting incident/accident investigations using techniques such as Root Cause Failure Analysis and TapRooT. Compliance and effective governance are also areas I am committed to. I enjoy sharing what I learn with others by teaching seminars, speaking at conferences, and personal 1:1 mentoring. I adhere the philosophy that anything worth learning is something worth sharing. I consider mentoring to be one of the most important things I do. I have a proven resiliency and ability to lean into new and challenging work or life experiences.
