About Rick Martin

I have a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I also achieved an Aviation Safety Certificate, completing several electives including flight physiology and accident investigation, among others. During my initial aviation career, I flew skydivers in Oregon. In 2001, I earned my Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic (A&P) license at Moody Aviation in East Tennessee. We moved back to Oregon and I worked as an A&P for 3 years. Feeling the need to get back in the cockpit, I found a position flying King Air 90s and Beech 18 Turbines. I was able to be part of a short-term, special assignment on a low-level, oral rabies vaccination dispersal project over South and Central Texas. I also had the fortune to serve as Base Manager and pilot for the Kingston, Jamaica operation, managing all aspects of the base including crew scheduling, maintenance, customer relations, and cargo flights to and from Mexico. I started with ExpressJet Airlines as a First Officer in May 2007. I was furloughed from ExpressJet in late 2008 and took the opportunity to stay home with our then 9-month-old daughter for a year. I will always cherish that time we had together but in mid-2009, it was time to get back to earning an income. I worked as an Information Technology Analyst for Hess Oil in Houston, TX until I was recalled to ExpressJet in December 2010. I became a Ground Instructor in February 2015 and enjoyed helping new, current, and returning pilots learn aircraft systems and procedures. I upgraded to Captain in November 2016. During my 20 years in aviation, I have held an impeccable safety record, maintaining and flying a variety of aircraft, from light single-engine aircraft to twin turbine tail-draggers, regional jets and now the B737 at United.
