His cases have spanned federal and appellate courts across the country and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), International Trade Commission (ITC), and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Rick has also lead large and small corporate IP transactions, in addition to building IP portfolios. Rick is licensed to practice law in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, the District of Columbia, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a focus in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Juris Doctor degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, and a Masters of Law degree in Intellectual Property Law from The George Washington University Law School. He clerked in the International Trade Commission's (ITC) Office of Unfair Import Investigation, focusing on Section 337 patent cases. In addition, he interned at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims for the Honorable Judge Susan G. Braden, where he advised the Judge on technical issues associated with a patent infringement case involving military night-vision technology – Honeywell Int’l v. United States, No. 02-1909, 66 Fed.
