As a young lawyer, I saw the dysfunction and unhappiness of business owners associated with business failure. Owners who overcame the loss were those able to see that losing was not as important as keeping productive in a meaningful way. That insight became the basis for my business consulting practice. Matching emotion with discipline allows management of trauma and yields production and accomplishment not possible with a scattered and undisciplined approach. Personal satisfaction can be gained if an individual’s productivity is meaningful – not necessarily in conventional terms but in terms understood and defined by the individual. What is meaningful is related to those close to us whom we can help and support. This help is only possible if we remain focused on a productive course in our business lives.
