About Rick Seip

Currently, at Hartford Hospital, I analyze outcomes data for cardiac patients and bariatric surgery patients. I have experience as a Medical Researcher in the non-profit sector and as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL). As an MSL for Sanofi/Genzyme (Rare Diseases - Endo) my responsibilities included raising awareness of differentiated and medullary thyroid cancers, and treatment options for both. For >20 years, I have been interested in genome-environment interactions especially in relation to health and medicine. My research to elucidate such includes >100 published papers in peer-reviewed journals, and 4 book chapters. I taught for 6 years at the University level, achieving tenure, and conducted research in a hospital setting for >12 years. Over my time in the non-profit sector, I obtained ~$580K in extramural funding as PI, and was instrumental to the procurement of $10.2 M in external funding for team projects in human clinical and metabolic research. I have filled essential roles in project management, data collection, data interpretation, and writing. My health care research history served well in the MSL position. Specialties- Exercise physiology PhD; clinical genomics experience - Post doctoral fellowship in Lipid Physiology - 6 yrs college teaching experience - conversant with HapMap - graduate level training in statistics - fluent in MS-excel, powerpoint; SPSS - familiar with SAS, R - n=12 peer-reviewed first authorships, in human lipid physiology, genetic modulation of drug effects in patients receiving drug therapy, and genetic modulation of diet and exercise effects in non-patients.
