About Rick Stavig

The global pandemic caused me to pivot in career paths, though I think the skills and experience gained from my years of working as a football coach, scout, and analyst provide an excellent foundation for working in the emerging cybersecurity field. I have excellent leadership and communication skills and am highly analytical and detail focused. I have a BA in History from Shippensburg University and an MS in Cybersecurity Technology from the University of Maryland Global Campus. I’ve logged hundreds of hours in both research-based learning, lab environments and live environments studying network security, information security management, vulnerability testing, cyber defense, penetration testing, and malware analysis. I have experience as Junior Penetration Tester, where I've assisted with all aspects of penetration testing, including planning and reconnaissance, threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, exploitation, privilege escalation, post-exploitation, and writing conclusive reports on analysis and findings. Experience with Kali Linux suite of software tools. Experience Nmap for live host discovery, basic, advanced, and post-port scanning. Experience with Metasploit, Burp Suite, DIRB, Nikto, WPScan and HTTrack. Began a job with MetLife in August 2022 working as a Threat Hunter for the Web Application Security team.
