About Rik Hansen

Hendrik (Rik) Hansen obtained his M.Sc. degree in applied physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, in 2005. After graduating, Rik briefly worked as a software/system test engineer at Assembléon BV in Veldhoven, the Netherlands and in 2007 Rik started as a PhD student at the Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In 2012, he obtained his Ph.D. degree on noninvasive vascular ultrasound strain elastography for vulnerable plaque detection in carotid arteries and stayed as post-doctoral researcher with the Medical Ultrasound Imaging Center (MUSIC) to work on the development of ultrafast functional ultrasound techniques, such as 3D strain elastography, 3D blood flow imaging and shear wave elastography (SWE) for vascular applications and breast cancer detection. He also temporarily worked as a teacher at the MBRT department of Fontys, Eindhoven, the Netherlands. After obtaining two grants and being awarded the prestiguous junior Principle Investigator status by the Radboud Board of Directors, in 2020 he was appointed as assistant professor Medical Imaging/universitair docent. In June 2022 Rik switched from the field of Ultrasound Research to the field of Radiotherapy to apply scientific breakthroughs and innovations directly in patient care as Innovationphysicyst at Maastro Clinic, Maastricht, the Netherlands.
