About Rio Eden

Two things to start: 1. Yes, I have seen the movie Rio. 🦜 2. Yes, I do dance on the sand (if you know, you know). Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to business! I’m Rio, if you couldn’t tell so far. If you know me, you know that I’m Type A. I enjoy crossing things off a list, getting things done ahead of schedule and of course, organization. I’m passionate about networking, problem solving, and everything to do with the web. Throughout my time at Grand Valley State, I was promoted from Social Media Intern to Social Media Assistant at the GVSU Laker Store. Here, I took on more responsibility than just creating content, but helped to grow our social accounts and manage the Marketing department. I also interned with an orthopedist where I conducted market research and compiled data for a marketing strategy campaign. From there, I was able to present my findings to senior management and provide direction. I graduated in 2020, right after the pandemic began. Everything was planned perfectly, until life held innumerable unknowns. I quickly had to shift gears to stay afloat. During this time, I worked at a bakery (yes 3 AM is EARLY) where I was able to bring a lot of my creativity to fruition. I learned I had a passion for baking and decided to start my side hustle Donuts by Rio. From there I was able to keep up with current practices on social media, as well as learn how to operate a small business. From there, I held numerous marketing internships where I’ve gained experience in creating engaging content, recruitment, designed/distributed email marketing campaigns, and more. I’ve also worked in customer service at Farmers Insurance, where I earned multiple awards for excellent customer service and quality control. Currently, I am back at GVSU Laker Store as the Marketing Manager. Here, I am managing five students. We work together daily in making sure our department is running efficiently and effectively. From this experience, I have already learned so much. I’ve learned how to assign tasks/work together to accomplish a goal, how to multitask, how to communicate with numerous departments and so much more. I am also mentoring a student through the Seidman College of Business, where we work on enhancing their professional skills, resume building and more.
