About Rishu Verma

As a Research Assistant at Dr. Wenpeng Yin's Language X Lab, I developed practical skills in conducting research on large language models (LLMs), such as the impact of different types of mathematical question statements on their answers, the relation between different datasets and their performance on different LLMs (like GPT, BERT, etc.), and correlation between the results observed based on model similarities or datasets. I also collaborated with brilliant researchers and senior PhD students, learning from their insights and feedback. One of my publications, co-authored with Dr. Yin, has been accepted at the EACL student workshop (31st January 2024)[WIP for other conferences]. Besides research, I also serve as a Teaching Assistant at Penn State University, where I have assisted over 300+ students (per semester) to understand how programming languages were developed progressively and also introduce them to the concept of functional programming language & lambda calculus. I have also served as a Head TA for this course, delegating work to a team of 5+ teaching assistants, 6+ learning assistants, and 6+ graders. Before starting my Masters degree, I worked as a Software Engineer at HSBC, where I primarily worked on backend development and data engineering. Developed REST APIs using Spring framework (Boot, Security, Cloud, etc.) & and J2EE web services for JWT (JSON web token) authentication. I also established and automated the CI/CD pipeline, optimized the client-reporting platform using different database optimization techniques (sharding, indexing, etc.), led a platform upgrade project with 11+ sister teams and global business, and even hosted multiple knowledge-sharing sessions to help upskill myself and everyone around me. Based on my performance and work ethic I was recognized by then Head of Technology India, HSBC with the title "Getting great results in the right way" and was also appreciated for my efforts to take end-to-end ownership of the projects, by senior leaders and managers at HSBC. Based on my skills and quality of deliverables I was rated as TOP Performer (in tech and behaviour) and was promoted to Senior Software Engineer within the timeframe of 2.5 years.
