About Rita Dicicco

Working with children has been something that has always been natural to me. I grew up volunteering with my church at a Sunday School which is where I really fell in love with the profession. From there I have had many experiences that have helped me to build my career as a teacher. In High School I had the opportunity to study abroad in Europe for a few weeks. I spent as much time as I could learning about other countries so that it could help me with teaching. I also added a minor in deaf studies in college because I wanted to be accessible to everyone no matter their ability. Not only did I learn a little bit about the language but also about their culture and identity. While at West Chester University, I had the opportunity to work at a job on campus talking to alumni and parents so that I could not only build my communication skills but also prepare myself for talking with unhappy parents. This job really prepared me for the communication skills needed to be a teacher. I also have vast community experience, working with my church in many ways such as making food for the homeless, painting nails at nursing homes, working in gardens in DC over spring break, and reading to children over the summer. Many of my jobs revolved around children as well such as working at summer camps, and working with individuals of all ages with disabilities as a job coach through DCIU. There I had the opportunity work on the job with the individuals teaching them job and life skills. From there, I went into the classroom teaching 5th grade Special Education and 1st grade. I currently work for PA Cyber as an Enrollment Coordinator. All of these experiences have molded me into an individual that is caring of all people.
