About Ritesh Dey

I am a Graduate Research Assistant at University of Nebraska Medical Center, where I conduct genetic research and learn from leading experts in the field. My projects involve various aspects of molecular genetics and cell biology, such as DNA and RNA extraction. I am passionate about advancing the knowledge and understanding of genetic disorders and their treatments. I also have valuable experience in genetic counseling as a summer intern at Tata Memorial Centre, one of the largest cancer centers in India. I successfully counseled 10-15 patients with BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 mutations and colorectal cancers, interpreting the results of 26 cancer gene panel tests by NGS and conducting pre-test and follow-up sessions. Additionally, I acquired skills in blood plasma and buffy coat separation for cfDNA study, and formalin fixation and embedding of biopsy tissue for molecular studies. My academic background includes a B.Sc. Honours in Forensic Science from Amity University, where I learned to isolate and lyse DNA from different biological evidences, quantify and sequence DNA, and study electropherograms for various forensic cases. I also hold multiple certifications in forensic science topics and English proficiency. I am currently pursuing a M.Sc. in Human Genetics at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, where I deepen my knowledge and skills in the field of genetics. My core competencies include molecular and cellular biology, cell culture, research, genetic counseling, forensic science, and data analysis. I am an extremely quick learner and a devoted researcher who aims to contribute to the field of genetic disorders with their cure and best treatments. I am also a collaborative and supportive team player who values diversity and inclusion.
