About Ritesh Sharma

Born in the Thar desert, An Ecologist by heart and a Forest Economist by Training; this phrase explains me as a Development Professional for the last seventeen years with Master in Forest Economics. My professional focus has been to enable conservation practices with national policymakers (MoEFCC), International bilateral agencies (GIZ), Financial Institutes (NABARD), Research Institutes (FRI), and communities (in the Himalayas, Thar and Coastal) through demonstrating the techno-economic role of natural resources. I have contributed to the successful implementation of an International study initiative and have helped India to contribute its National study on TEEB. It required me to manage and coordinate on 14 studies done by eminent ecologists and economists of the country. In my previous role, I contributed to the management of state-level programme Climate change adaptation strategies with Finance Institutes like KFW and NABARD. While working on Emergency relief issues, I realised and learnt the critical role of prioritisation of efforts. I have found success in the use of mixed skills of managerial as well as technical expert role. As a manager, I am at ease at programme monitoring and documentation, grant management, financial management, designing training modules. My research expertise in Environmental and Resource Economics, Rangeland Ecology, Econometrics, Impact monitoring system in NRM as well as Geo-hydrological systems, still provides me with an edge in environmental policy programme. My advanced skills in photography have rendered high-quality photo documents to my projects as well as provides me peace of mind in my leisure time.
