About Riya Goel

I am currently coordinating the Pfizer covid-19 trial for children under twelve years old. I am also working on a Stanford University clinical study called TRACK Covid where we measure breakthrough infection rates across the Bay Area. In this study, individuals of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds are represented as we visit people in their place of residence to ask them questions and obtain research samples. I am an applicant in the 2021-22 medical school application cycle. In pursuit of my goal to become a physician-scientist engaged with the health needs of marginalized groups, I have actively sought opportunities to broaden my understanding of demographic and cultural aspects of health through teaching health education to local high schoolers in Los Angeles and learning about how diseases differ from person to place as part of the global medicine course at Oxford University. As a physician, I want to tackle the lack of diversity in research and prevent adverse health outcomes through clinical practice and education. Whether it is socioeconomic status or ethnicity, as a clinician-researcher I will make an impact by tailoring treatments and clinical trials to those most underrepresented.
