About Rob Cannon

I am a teacher, coach, facilitator, and educator, specialising in the arts, entertainment, and creative industries. Fuelled by a life-long love of music, I have spent over 20 years in the music industry in the UK, USA, and Australia, working with the organisations, artists, and practitioners that lead the arts and entertainment industry, as well as with the students who are its future. I have worked for major record labels and collaborated with best-selling artists to release new music. I have held teaching and senior leadership positions within the music programs of tertiary academic institutions. And I have worked independently with individuals and organisations in a number of capacities – from providing individual coaching to delivering team training workshops – to help them do great work. In particular, my interest – and my work – focus on the individual experiences of artists, practitioners, and executives working in the creative industries, on the quality of these experiences, on their creative processes, and on the success of the professional relationships between them. As a result, my mission is to help people have a more rewarding, more successful, and more sustainable experience of working in these industries; to help people be their best and most creative selves, do their best work, and be fulfilled in doing so; and to help organisations do great work whilst nurturing and elevating their people. I work with individuals and organisations in a number of ways: • Personal coaching for individuals • Collaboration with organisations to design and deliver workshops and training programs for their people • Academic work, teaching, and research within academic institutions Finally, I recently completed my PhD; my research examined the relationships between recording artists and record labels, and investigated the factors and dynamics that influenced the quality of those relationships. I am also the co-author of Aha! A User’s Guide to Creativity, a book that explores all aspects of the creative process—from idea to innovation, from moon-shot to mass market—and demystifies the steps to ‘being more creative’.
