I am a 31 year veteran of the automotive industry. My parents bought a small Ford/Mercury dealership in 1966, I joined the dealership in 1984 after graduating from UVA in 1982 and spending 2 1/2 years as a banker for NCNB (now Bank of America) in Charlotte N. C. and Fayetteville N. C. In a small dealership everyone wears lots of hats, so just as my parents had, I learned all departments starting out as a commisioned salesperson and eventually taking over as owner and general manager in 1996. We sold the dealership in 2008 and I stayed on as General Manager under the new owners. In 2010 we moved the dealership to Lexington, Va. to a former General Motors dealership that had lost their franchise as part of the General Motors bankruptcy, again I stayed on as General Manager. I left the dealership in July of 2013 so our family can move an hour away to Roanoke Va. where our son has been attending school since January of 2012. I took the late summer and fall off to get our house sold.
