About Rob Forkner

With over two and a half decades of experience in the IT field, my mission at Abilene Christian University has been to maintain an environment where technology empowers education. My expertise lies in server and storage management, ensuring highly available services in our data center. My approach aligns with the university's commitment to excellence, and I am dedicated to contributing diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to our team. In my current role, I oversee a sprawling infrastructure of 230+ servers and manage over 300 TB of storage, applying regular updates, monitoring system and environmental metrics, and cross-department collaboration. My efforts are focused on not just having resources be highly available, but also anticipating technological needs before the rest of the community even nows they want it, ensuring that the institution's technology resources support its educational mission and the satisfaction of our community.
