About Rob Freil

I began work in K-12 education in August, 1997. I spent nine years as a classroom teacher before entering the field of public school principal leadership. In those experiences I have overseen curriculum and assessment work. My experiences in K-12 have ranged all three levels of working with children and has allowed me to focus on developing professional learning and culture building within an elementary school. The area of greatest impact as an instructional, educational leader is understanding how to balance the importance of human relationships with teachers, parents and children withing the systemic and structural culture of public school education. The tasks needing to be complete while moving forward in the best educational interest of children can overwhelm school leaders if they do not understand how to balance the work with relationships. This is where educational leadership best fits my My research interest Is in qualitative methods. I conducted a phenomenological study of elementary principals' perspectives on environmental fit theory within teacher selection processes for my dissertation study. I enjoy projects related to teacher selection processes particularly as it relates to an understanding of fit as it informs that process. In the work of Curriculum leader my current projects include aligning development and revision processes as aligned to state and national standards.
