I have been employed in the Electricity Generation side of Eskom (South Africa's main electricity generator, transmitter and distributor) for my entire working career (from 1983). This has been primarily in Hydro, run of river and pumped storage. This started in the area of mechanical maintenance, then in the operations department working shifts. This was followed by line management in maintenance before progressing to managing two run of river hydro power stations on the Orange River, South Africa. I was then seconded to the Muela Hydro Power Station under construction in Lesotho as a maintenance and operations specialist to assist with the setting up of maintenance and operations processes, standards and systems. On the conclusion of the secondment I was deployed to the Cape Town office of the Peaking Operating Unit (all of Eskom’s hydro and gas power stations). Here I have been tasked with various line management and project roles (e.g. Risk Management, Assurance, Information Management, ISO 9001, MS SharePoint).
