About Rob Goodberry

Hi! My name is Rob. I'm a senior developer at Shopify. Ever since the first time I learned about HTML and made a simple webpage with notepad at the age of 13, I have been fascinated with software development. I am self taught. I don't have any post-secondary education or certifications. What I do have is a drive to learn new things and a passion to apply that knowledge to do really cool stuff. One of my favorite things to work on is automation. I love being able to take a long and/or repetitive manual task and blow someone's mind by making that task happen with the click of a button. I'm constantly looking for ways to move faster as I work, and sharing those discoveries with my peers. I became passionate about this during my time as a call center representative, where every second matters. I was a Salesforce Developer at Shopify for most of my development career. I initially started with general Salesforce admin/development work before eventually branching out to devops and Ruby on Rails apps that integrate with Salesforce. I currently spend most of my time working in React/Typescript. I love mentoring people. Before I decided I wanted to be a developer professionally, I wanted to be a teacher. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people understand new concepts or use new tools to accomplish their goals. It's so awesome to see that moment when everything just clicks for someone. I take pride in my communication skills, especially in a mentor-mentee setting. I always do my best to be as approachable as possible and make sure nobody ever feels bad about asking me a question. My biggest hobby is gaming. I particularly like 2D platformers, survival games and sound simulators. I am also a huge fan of edutainment YouTube. And cats. My girlfriend and I have 4 of them.
