Background

About Rob Harvan

Retired after 45 odd (some more odd than others, to be sure) years in plastics, petrochemical and refined products analysis. After surviving a number of "force reductions," I was faced with (once again) having to apply for a position in the newly designed organization with a few less boxes on the org chart. Didn't get picked and I entered the separation process I now call Lay-tirement! I took my benefits from Chevron and the Social Security Administration and handed them to a financial planner. This has allowed me to spend my days deeply immersed in my passions in which I could never have earned a living: history and rock 'n' roll; two disciplines that can intersect. I was a Docent at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston, TX but moved to San Antonio in January 2021. I did the same sort of gig with the Commemorative Air Force/Central Texas Wing - in San Marcos in a hangar built in 1942 when the airport was an Army Air Force navigator school - until I departed at the at end of October; too far to drive and too few visitors. I also spend a lot of time in museums and at historic sites. While most of these venues are military, not all are. I've ridden on the infamous Railway of Death in Thailand; climbed the Berlin Wall and chipped pieces out; stood on Lexington Green; viewed an in-situ Roman mosaic floor in St. Albans, UK and visited most Beatles related spots in Liverpool (and saw them live at Shea Stadium in 1966!). I have just begun a new role as a volunteer Researcher and Writer for The Dispatch, a monthly publication of the CAF. I also see - well, maybe have seen or will see, what with COVID - my favorite bands. So happy that process has been restarted. To quote Joe Walsh: “Life’s been good to me, so far.”
