About Rob Herlihy

Printing is all I know. Ever since high school I have wanted to be in printing. I took a printing class that opened my eyes to the whole process. It started with making notepads with the letterpress. Then I got to make film and plates that went on the one color AB Dick press that was being held together with paper clips and rubber bands. But none of that mattered because I was getting to make stuff that people used on a day to day basis. I got to see the things that I made. So I went to college to start pursuing my printing career. I got to work with the presses. I thought I wanted to be a pressmen. And then we got these things called the Apple computer. It was going to change the printing industry. It was then that I wanted to learn more. I studied design and typography. I got to use those Apple computers. I wanted to use them to design stuff. But apparently I was in for a surprise. My first job was as a prepress operator. Now granted I got to use those Apple computers…just in a different capacity. I was already getting the files designed. I was now a trouble shooter. I was trying to get these files ready to go to film that would be later be put on to a plate. I've seen this industry grow. It's one of the things that I love about my job. It's forever changing. Technology is constantly making it easier to get the files done faster. We have to consistently grow and continue to change with the times. Everyday is a new challenge and I always wonder what is in store for me today…?
