Background

About Rob Hobart

After twenty five years in IT, I have a broad range of professional technical and business experience. My focus tends to be on communicating between IT and the business, and translating that knowledge into effective technical solutions and architectures across a wide range of systems. I'm a keen proponent of IT professionalism, and am a active member of several IT organisations. I am a Chartered IT Professional, and adhere to the BCS codes of conduct and enjoy encouraging others within the engineering profession, through tools like MentorNet. I am particularly interested in new ways of working with IT, as I feel that many of the current accepted systems have reached a point where complexity is diminishing their use - the popularity of simple to use devices like tablets and smart phones point to a growing need for simplicity in the business environment. Specialties: Key business skills include project management (PRINCE), business analysis (ISEB) and ITIL experience, in addition to communication skills, particularly technical writing and presentation skills. Technical skills include the complete Microsoft SQL Server, SharePoint, Exchange and Windows, as well as experience with most forms of web development, and experience with open platforms such as Linux, Wordpress and PHP, and MySQL.
