Board Certified Family Medicine Physician. Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. Current appointments- Associate Professor, Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine - Affiliate Faculty, Penn State Law - Affiliate Faculty, Center for Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Scientific Applications (CENSAI), Penn State Institute for Computational Data Sciences - Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Active Projects- Using Hantzsch esters as reactive oxygen species scavengers on skin to inhibit carcinogenesis. This is an active collaboration with Dr. Michael K. Denk, University of Guelph, Canada- Developing artificial intelligence applications to augment qualitative analysis. This is a collaborative effort with Drs. Chris Griffin and Robbie Fraleigh at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State- Exploring moral injury as an etiology for healthcare worker distress. This is a large collaborative effort with Drs. Wendy Dean, Simon Talbot, Sneha Mantri, David Rabago, and Philip Day- Demonstrating the efficacy of a standardized osteopathic manipulative procedure in the treatment of chronic migraines, collaborating with Dr. Jason Croad- Using a Delphi process to identify resident-ranked perceived barriers to scholarly activity, collaborating with Drs. David Rabago and Simoyan Olapeju. Ongoing COVID-19 Research - Evaluating health messaging efficacy (in terms of public knowledge, behavior, and information sources) during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes collaborations with Dr. Rachel Smith and the Penn State Data4Action Research Group, Dr. Ray Block, Jr. and the African American Research Collaborative, as well as our internal efforts, led by myself and Dr. LJ Van Scoy- Evaluating osteopathic manipulative therapy as adjunctive therapy for acute respiratory distress syndrome in patients with COVID-19, a collaboration with Drs. David Rabago and Jason Croad. Long Term Projects - Building a multilateral coalition to enhance care to Brazilian riverine populations and explore the relationships between their environment, culture and health.
