About Rob MacKay

A Principal Metallurgist (Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, Canada) who has experience in aluminum metal casting since 1995, and for 15 years formally lead a salaried staff of a Metallurgical Laboratory that is world class and accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 (by A2LA, since 2007) that supports all arms of the metal casting industry for several Nemak sites and its global OEMs. Participates or leads R&D initiatives, conducts internal training programs in Metallurgy, Casting Processes, Heat Treatment, Melt Quality Control, and has conducted as host in several internal training videos (e.g. Brinell Hardness, Optical Emission Spectroscopy and the Nemak Casting Collage). Has championed several process optimizations which has realized millions in current and past cost avoidances in metal processing and heat treatments for metal casting products at Nemak. Has been an innovator in the metal casting industry and published nearly 80 articles in International Conferences and Peer Reviewed Journals, and is a co-author of a Textbook titled: Al-Si Alloys - Automotive, Aeronautical & Aerospace Applications, under the publisher Springer Nature, which has a reach in 50 countries (also found on Indigo, Amazon & Barnes & Noble). Currently copies has been sold in the three years since publication. Effective communicator through many International Materials Engineering Conferences, past tenure as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Windsor, and as the first three term Chairperson of one of the largest and oldest American Foundry Society Chapters (Detroit-Windsor Chapter of the American Foundry Society).
