About Rob Oleary

A seasoned education professional who specializes in working with both international and low-literacy learners. As a high school ESL teacher in New York City, I improved the literacy and communication skills of English Language Learners by using Danielson’s Framework for the Common Core, supported by unit plans developed through Understanding by Design. Outside the classroom, I trained New York City Teaching Fellows using Doug Lemov’s “Teach Like a Champion” techniques. As a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Ukraine, I implemented a new student-centered teaching curriculum at Zhytomyr State University and trained future English language teachers using English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Finally, I have been working in conjunction with the United States State Department and Georgetown University as an English Language Fellow in Peru. I have trained hundreds of teachers throughout the country in student-centered, interactive classroom techniques. I am quadrilingual in English, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.
