About Rob Patterson

I have been a part of the Washington University community for over 27 years. My roles have included director of the writing center, administrator and instructor of writing courses, curriculum designer, and academic advisor. As director of the writing center, I lead a team of writing consultants who provide workshops and one-on-one consultations to undergraduate and graduate students on both writing and speaking projects. I have 17 years of teaching experience in literature and academic writing and have been recognized with the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award. I have won and directed a grant project to study and develop bridge programs for St. Louis area high school students transitioning to college level coursework. Additionally, I have worked abroad in Istanbul, Turkey where I co-designed and taught a program preparing international scholarship recipients for study in the U.S. and U.K. Whether at the curriculum design and administrative level or in one-on-one consultations, all of my professional experience focuses on guiding students' transitions from one phase of their education to the next.
