As a founding member of PEG, Ltd, Robert D. Shoss, Member and Managing Consultant, has over 25 years of experience helping organizations develop and use reliable metrics to better understand and manage their relationships with key stakeholder groups such as donors, alumni, employees or members. According to Rob Shoss, “Understanding the relationship between an institution and their distinct donor and non-donor populations is at the core of a successful and sustainable philanthropic development program.” Shoss describes his job as “measuring the seemingly immeasurable”. PEG’s signature study process goes beyond the usual to provide sophisticated analysis of complex attitudes and perceptions. Mr. Shoss created the peer reviewed Study and survey process through a collaborative effort with advancement leaders in higher education. Combining the best of the tried and true survey techniques with the most advanced technologies, the Study provides substantiated insights on prospect, donor and alumni relationships. Survey responses are segmented to create distinct narratives and associated engagement strategies based on giving priorities, perceptions and preferences. Study participants can compare their results to Study benchmarks and peer group averages to help identify priorities and goals. Shoss says, “Our Study process is focused on long term, donor-centric engagement that is cost effective and results oriented and helps create a transformative connectedness with increased volunteers, giving, sponsorships and community goodwill." Mr. Shoss has developed both the Alumni Attitude Study for educational institutions and the Donor Attitude Study for Healthcare Philanthropy. Shoss has an M.B.A. in Market Research from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma scholastic honorary society. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Tulane University and is a board member of the Tulane University Alumni Association.
