About Rob Surminski

Rob Surminski has worked both internationally and in the UK education system for more than 10 years and is currently working as a lead houseparent in Thorpe House at TASIS - The American School in England. As well as this role in a boarding house with 30 teenage girls from all over the workd, he teaches PSHEE and he initiated community and wellbeing activities such as TASIS runners, Badminton badgers, Boarding gardening club, the Global Gratitude jar and the Plant exchange. So far, Rob’s career has been spent teaching all IB DP Dutch courses at international schools in and around London (ACS Cobham, Halcyon, ACS Hillingdon). Both in The Netherlands as well as in the United Kingdom he's taught Dutch language acquisition and literature classes. He has experience teaching EAL and PSHEE and is currently developing a tool kit with activities for pastoral staff working in boarding houses. During a 9 week placement in a primary school in Managua, Nicaragua as well as during two month-long student led trips to Namibia, Rob has discovered his passion for educational projects abroad. He has also chaperoned on school trips to Belgium (Ypres), The Netherlands (MUN) and Swiss (skiing). At the moment he's following the 'BSA Diploma in Boarding Practice - diploma course' with a focus on efficient staff meetings in large boarding communities.
